Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement, which you will receive upon booking confirmation or vehicle pickup. This agreement outlines essential terms, conditions, insurance coverage, applicable charges, and your obligations for the rental period. In cases of discrepancy between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Vehicle Rental Requirements
- To rent a vehicle from Leigh Car Hire, drivers must be at least 21 years old, although age restrictions may differ based on the vehicle type. A valid driving license, appropriate for the chosen category and held for the minimum duration stated in the Rental Agreement, is required. Renters must also present valid identification and proof of current address, along with payment details and a security deposit. Additional requirements may be outlined in the Rental Agreement.
Booking and Payments
- Reservations can be made via our website, by phone, or directly at our Dartford office. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. The remaining balance and a security deposit are usually payable upon vehicle pickup. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT where applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, processed securely through trusted payment providers.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of collection, please conduct a thorough inspection of the vehicle and promptly report any pre-existing damage. A vehicle condition report will be completed and must be signed by you. It is important to return the vehicle in the same condition as it was collected, considering normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated, and applicable charges will be applied. Return the vehicle with the same fuel level as at pick-up; refueling fees will be incurred if it is returned with less fuel. Should you anticipate a late return, please inform us as soon as possible to avoid additional charges. You are responsible for any parking fines, traffic violations, or other charges that arise during your rental, along with a small administrative fee.
Insurance and Liability Terms
- All rentals include basic third-party insurance. You can find complete coverage details and excess amounts in the Rental Agreement. Additional insurance options may be offered to lower your financial liability, so it's beneficial to review these thoroughly. You will be liable for any damage or loss up to the insurance excess, unless additional coverage is in place. Any damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violation of these Terms remains your responsibility, regardless of insurance.
Cancellation and Modifications
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice period given. For precise information, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Late cancellations or failure to show may incur additional charges.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited Vehicle Uses
- Use of the vehicle for any illegal activities is strictly prohibited. This includes racing, rallying, off-roading, or similar risky pursuits. Transporting hazardous materials is not allowed. The vehicle must not be sub-let or driven by unauthorized individuals. Operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs is forbidden. Additionally, the vehicle should not be used for purposes it was not designed for, including exceeding passenger or weight limits, or driving outside the agreed geographical boundaries without prior consent.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental cancellation and extra fees.
Liability Limitations
To the fullest extent allowed by English and Welsh law, Leigh Car Hire will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, resulting from your use of our services. Our maximum liability for any claim is limited to the total rental amount paid in the previous 12 months. This does not exclude liability for death or personal injury due to negligence or for fraudulent activities.
9. Legal Framework
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of their courts.
10. Updates to Terms
We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Changes take effect immediately once posted on our site. Continued use of our services indicates your agreement to the revised Terms.
